Disney on Ice celebrates 100 Years of Magic show notes & review
The creators of the Disney on Ice shows understand what makes something good entertainment. Aside from the fact that they are starting with classic Disney stories as material, the arrangment of the segments is very savvy. Children of varied ages, interests, and attention spans remain entertained because the slower segments give a respite from the high energy ones, and anything reflective gives way to something attention grabbing.
My son’s favorite was the toy soldiers from Toy Story, but I personally preferred the “It’s a Small World” performance, complete with interpretations of traditional dance from around the world. I couldn’t decide where to look first during this action-packed celebration of culture and heritage. (And there were enough sparkles on those costumes to make even the most glitz-loving pageant queen smile!)
If you happen to enjoy ingenious set design, you’ll get a kick out of the “don’t peek behind the curtain!” style ingenuity. Thanks to some technical magic, the mood of the backdrop was changed to suit each part of the performance. I particularly enjoyed the times when just a change in lighting made it look like a completely different landscape. (The dark, foreboding version was my hands-down favorite! I hope that doesn’t say something profound about me…)
Event parking was $27. The garage is well managed and you’ll be directed to a spot, not left to fend for yourself while your kids shout about how parking the car is taking too long. (oh, that’s only mine? You’ll still be parked quickly and efficiently without having to hunt down your spot.)
Concessions are available at the show and anyone 2 & up needs a ticket. There is a security checkpoint, but it doesn’t turn into a bottleneck. If you need help managing your littlest children, I recommend a carrier or pack.
