After looking at dozens of breathtaking and impressive sunflower themed cakes, I came up with a cake design for those of us who flunked cake decorating class because we were sitting in the back tasting the icing while the fine points of technique were covered.
I used the smallest of these leaf cutters and a bag of yellow gummy candy rings (peach flavor, as it happens) to cut out a riot of petals. Then I arranged them and filled the centers with chocolate sprinkles. (My kiddo got a slice of the extra cake layer and leftovers of all the supplies so he could design his own “cake.” He says this should be an activity for guests at our future parties. These particular guests seemed fine with just eating the cake, but I’ll keep the idea in mind.)

Since I don’t care for buttercream, I used Sturdy Whipped Cream Frosting. There are apricot & pineapple preserves between the layers of white cake. (Sorry, there are no cut cake photos… we were too busy eating it to get a picture for you…)
So cute! I think I will cry if I have to eat the cake! Looks so lovely!
Thank you! The tears came when trying to fit into our jeans after. 😉
